Quoted from the book "The 7 best things smart things do"

A section: Break the silence, One teen's worst list

"Here are the worst things I did as a teenager. Many of my friends did them too. The first one is silently screaming - not telling adults around you what you need from them, such as emotional support, guidance and direction; not telling them what is going on in your life, i.e. not bringing the truth out in the open, such as " I need help getting involved in more appropriate groups and activities than I am in now."

The next one is taking on the world - not getting emotional of physical help when you need it; thinking you are so strong you can get through anything or die in the fight, such as suffering from clinical depression and not seeking help, trying to persevere through it on your own and taking bad risks to prove your strength in mind and life.

The third one is ignoring the inner voice - which is your conscience, which sometimes sound like Mom's preaching or Dad's concern, but is really your heart/moral judgement which holds a lot of wisdom and should be given the respect it truly deserves . . . respect shown in listening and understanding, since it is your own heart and conscience speaking . . . You own it to your own body, mind, and soul to take it seriously. It affects the future of "you".

Next is ignoring your own talents and interests for another image, which is pretty self-explanatory. (examples listed, I'm not gonna include; just tells not to give up personal interests due to peer pressure or society's view).

Next comes too much reliance on friends, not enough on family - relying too much on peer support. You should be going to adults in your life fairly regularly for support as well. Although they seem to be out of touch sometimes, they have a lot more life experience and wisdom than even your most worldly-wise friends. Regular support from competent adults in your life should allow you to become even more independent, stronger and wiser than peers who rely solely on each other."

P.S. thought it could be enriching.. should read the book. has lots of valuable sections too, like how to manage your emotions and mature mentally and not just physically, into adulthood.
